Easy Polished Stone Technique

This technique takes me back.  I know what you're thinking...you're not that old...but Ihave been stamping since I was in high school so that's over 20 years.  The Polished Stone technique has been around for quite a while...and is quite easy.  I found an even easier way too.

Traditionally for the Polished Stone technique, you would need glossy paper, ink refills, and rubbing alcohol.  You would use the alcohol with the ink and daub it over the glossy paper.  I found that it could be a little messy.

Instead of using the messy stuff....I just used sponge daubers with ink pads and then a little shimmer paint.  The first step is to use the dark color and daub it all over the place.  Next you come in with the ligther hue and daub all over everywhere.  You'll want to make sure to go over the edges of the darker color so it blends together.

After blending your colors together, I used a regular sponge with the simmer paint to go over the top of the color.

As you can see, adding the little shimmer paint, really adds quite the effect.  When I do this I add a little shimmer paint to an empty accessories plastic container and dip my sponge into it.  This way I can make sure I don't get too much paint onto the sponge.

The peek-a-boo of color is just amazing against the classic white!
A nice simple card with a burst of special color.

Merry Christmas & Owning Up!

So so funny....I am writing this right now as I sit up in bed and everyone else is sleeping.  We decided to open gifts last night so we would be able to sleep in...and (story of my life) I can't.  So I am putting my blog post together as I keep forgettting to do this new "old" task onn my list.  Onve a week I thought would be very easy to maintain...only to remember on Monday that I forgot.

Of course, with the hustle and bustle of the holidays, my birthday, and redoing a child's room into a guest bedroom had othing to do with it (insert small piece of sarcasm).  It truely was just because I forgot.

So I am owning up to it.  Liz...put it on your calendar!  Make yourself a real deadline.  Do it!  I need YOU to keep me accountable.  So if you're reading this....and you don't see a new blog post from me by Sunday of that week, don't be afraid to call me out!  If you do, I think I'll throw in a reward!  It's gotta be something good that everyone could use no matter what kind of crafting you do.  Let's say...a package of paper or adhesive.  You can't realy craft without paper or adhesive.  So remember, if you notice that I didn't post a blog the whole week and Sunday turns into Monday...let me know!

Anyways, I hope each and everyone of you have a Merry Christmas!!!  Love the Giles Family!

Projects from December Stamp Camp

I host Stamp Camps the first Wednesday of every month at 6pm in my home in Marshfield WI.  We always do 5 projects.  I provide everything for all the projects...adhesive, paper, ink, ribbon, etc.  plus a little drink and snack.

Class is only $12.  It's really easy to RSVP.  Just visit my Stampin' Unicorns events page on Facebook and mark GOING :)  You pay the night of the event.

We utilized the stamparatus to make this card WAY EASIER than it looks.  See how nicely the light bulbs are lined up?!?  Well that's all thanks to the stamparatus and the hindge step technique.

Sometimes we do boxes or different size cards too.  This is a 3x3 "Love note" size card.  I love using our amazing designer series paper for these.  Then you can see both sides of the awesome paper.

This is the 4th project (sorry don't have pictures of the 5th card...which was also a bonus 6th card).  For this card it's the "spotlight" technique.  We stamped the trees first and then punched them out.  Then we used sponge daubers and colored it.  Added a border and popped it up.
